when i try to format a floppy disk on windows XP, i start to do it and then get an error message that says windows was not able to complete format...any suggestions?

Happened to me before. I just ended up replacing the floppy disk.

Try a different floppy. Make sure it's being formatted to the correct capacity. Worst case scenario is that the floppy drive may be going bad.

Jordan L is most likely correct about your floppy drive going bad.... hell i haven't used a floppy since 1999... my suggestion would be to get one of those portable USB flash drives 512 to 1 gig or so... its well worth it and you'll never need a floppy disk again.

Floppy disks are about to disappear e.g. Windows 98... try storing your files in USB's ... (",)

Make sure the little write protect tab in the corner of the disk is set to unlocked
