I bought a replacement power supply off of ebay. The power supply was not the exact same one as the original but the seller swears up and down that it's compatible. I installed the new power supply and here's what happens ...

As soon as the computer is plugged in the lights on the front of the machine turn on and the internal fan starts running. However, the on/off switch has no effect on anything. The front light stays on and the internal fan just keep running - but the computer cannot be powered down or booted up.

Everything is plugged in where it is suppose to be.

This very well could be a cooked motherboard.

Make sure all the connectors from the power supply are going to the right places. If you have a Pentium 4 processor, there are two types of connectors from the power supply to the mother board. Make sure both of them are connected. Make sure power supply to the hard drives are connected correctly, as well as to the cd/dvd drives.

dont shopon ebay it has many fraud products in electronics. why no longer attempt at a interior of reach computing gadget hardware broking or at a place which sells computing gadget products. for heavens sake do no longer use ebay as somewhat some the computing gadget appropriate stuff is deceptive

you may have damaged the motherboard when you replaced the PS have a tech look at it
