I don't find it offensive nor do I believe it's a symbol of racism anymore. I see the Confederate flag as nothing more than a pride in Southern heritage. People of the South that display the rebel battle flag are telling the world..."I'm from Dixie and damn proud of it!"

As a Black man I find the symbolism that some people use it for offensive. The "Confederate" flag was battle flag used during Confederate times of war. It was adopted as a symbol by groups like the KKK because they felt they were "at war" with all non-Whites. Now-a-days some people do fly the Confederate flag as a symbol for Southern pride. They have a right to use it in that fashion if they see fit and not be bashed for it. Unfortunately, a large portion of people that fly it also have low tolerance for other people that choose to show pride in their lineage (ie Mexicans flying a Mexican flag on their truck). Some others fly it because they know the way it is perceived en masse and like the negative connotations. Personally though, it doesn't bother me.

I live in small town Texas and I do find it offensive. I don't find it offensive because of it's origins as much as I do because of what it stands for today, at least in this area. If it's flying next to the Texas flag or the American flag in front of some government building, it doesn't bother me at all. However, when I see if flying in the yard in front of a mobile home, or across the back windshield of a truck, then yes I do find it offensive due to personal experience.
I have many friends from other races, a multi-racial daughter, and an adopted daughter from Laos. In the past I have been spit on, chased down the highway, had lit cigarettes thrown at me, had many ugly comments shouted at me, etc. Every time something like this has happened, it has been from some "good ol country boy" type with a confederate flag on his old beat up pick up truck.
I guess I'm not offended by the flag as much as I am by the people who choose to display it for the wrong reasons.

Nope. It's just an obsolete flag. It may have past that includes racism, but then again, so does the American flag. Let's just be real. The American flag has slavery of black people AND the attempted genocide of Native Americans in it's history.
That being said the US has proven since the time of slavery and genocide that there is room for change. Change for the better. If we've given our own flag that chance for change, why can't the old Confederate flag have the same chance?
Bottom line, if we condemn the Confederate flag because of the slavery in it's past then we're hypocrites if we don't condemn Old Glory for her tryst with slavery.
And no, I don't live in the south. I live in Washington State.

No it is not offensive. The confederate flag is Not about racism, or slavery. It was the Southern flag before the war, during the war, and after the war. It was not created by the KKK, it was used by the KKK. Not everyone that sports a confederate flag is racist at All. The flag represents the south and the southern way of life. It did not, nor will it represent slavery except by those that use it in that way. There are many of my black friends and other people in my area that have them on the front of there cars, fly them from the antenna, or have one in there yard because they are southern...

No. The confederates were people just like you and me who fought the government and lost. Now, even though people pick on the south, and tell a lot of lies about the civil war-we are all on the same side now. Now we all fight the government. Think about it.
It would do all Americans well to study the civil war, why and what for, and so on. Most people, even Southerners, think that the civil war was fought over slavery. See what war-time propaganda can do. People still believe that 150 years after the fact.
