They have fake arms with fake veins and fake blood these days so you don't have to victimise anyone.
(1) Give a little talk about the technique and why it is important and so on and so forth - educate about risks and benefits - be aware of the extreme needle phobia of some patients
(2) Demonstration video - show how it is done
GET:
equipment
patient
consent
THEN
apply tourniquet
wear gloves (universal precautions)
clean up area with antiseptic
locate the vein
use needle and syringe OR the modern vacutainer system
draw the blood
release the tourniquet BEFORE withdrawing the needle
withdraw the needle
apply a dressing and some local pressure
dispose of sharps
bottle the blood (from needle and syringe)
(3) turn 'em loose
they can practice on the fake arms
OR
they can be old school and practice on each other :)

Tiger top, red top, blue top, lavender top. Always draw non-additives (ie. clotting tubes) before tubes with anti-coagulants in it.
