Solve,

x + y = 4 ... (1)

x - y = - 10 ... (2)

Take (1) + (2),

x + x + y - y = 4 - 10

2x = -6

x = -6/2

x = -3 ... (3)

Substitute (3) into (1)

(-3) + y = 4

y = 4 + 3

y = 7

Add each part of the equations together. The y's cancel, so you have 2x = -6. Divide, and you get x = -3. Substitute into either equation, and you'll find y = 7.

adding 2 equation => 2x = -6
=> x = -3
replqce x =-3 into any of two equation => y= 7
