Jamaica is a great place to vacation. Just think, soft island breezes and the smell of warm jerked chicken just around the corner. A good place to go would be the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston. If you are planning to be in Jamaica and would like to visit the Bob Marley Museum the number is: 876-927-9152 normal long distance rates apply.

I would like to first start with this fact.

Jamaica is the 2nd top Honeymoon Destination. Hawaii being # 1. Now with being 2nd, I would just like to say they must be doing something right!

Everyone has heard a "horror story" from Jamaica, but if you ask these people where they stayed 9 times out of 10 it was a 3 star and under property. 3 stars is not the same meaning there as it is here. The standards are different than in the US. Which that is ok, it's just another country. Understand that and you will be just fine.

Jamaica is also a place you don't go and say "It doesn't matter where we stay". You can stay cheap in the US, but not in Jamaica. You don't have to stay in the most expensive resort; however your resort IS your stay. Therefore it is extremely important for you to have a resort you will enjoy for a week.

The main areas to visit in Jamaica are Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Whitehouse and Runaway Bay. You never want to travel to Kingston unless you have to.

Montego Bay is where the international airport is. Staying at resorts here you will periodically see the flights coming in and out. The resort I tend to use here is Sandals Montego Bay mostly because this is the 1st Sandals resort and I have several clients who really enjoy this active beautiful resort and continue to go there year after year. I think Montego Bay is good for a shorter stay such as 3 - 5 nights.

Negril which is approx. 45 min - 1 hr from the airport on a beautiful ocean view drive is going to be a little more expensive than the other parts usually. Negril is known for some of the best beaches in the world with the long 7 mile white sand beaches and gorgeous sunsets. Here you can go to Rick's Cafe and watch the locals dive off the cliffs. I wouldn't recommend doing that though.....can be very dangerous. Negril is flat compared to Ocho Rios.

Ocho Rios is opposite to Negril. From Montego Bay to Ocho Rios right now the roads are under construction so it is hard to say when they will be done as they are already beyond when they said they would be done. Jamaicans are wonderful friendly people, but life and work tend to have the same laid back relaxed sense to them. Currently it takes about 1 hr 45 min - 2 hr 20 min. approx. depending on where you are staying. Some of the resorts do have very nice beaches, but unlike Negril they are more cove like. See the mountains push towards the ocean. Golfing to is available in this area along with Dunn’s River Falls which is a 600 ft falls to climb, however in my opinion I think it is a bit overrated in my opinion. Good to do if you have time, but if not you’re not missing too much. In fact I have had a few clients sprain there ankle climbing this. They have a great craft market in town where you can do the bargaining. I highly recommend the wood carvings, however a tip. If one of the locals asks your name they are wanting to carve your name into there wood carving to convince you to purchase it. I purchased one and they carved Jamaica on it. Love it! Will get another when I go back.

Runaway Bay is in-between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios about 45 min - 1 hr. Time travel in Jamaica can also vary due to traffic. Runaway Bay is a place not for everyone as it is in the middle of no where. There is no town here at all, closest would be either MoBay or Ocho.

Whitehouse is an old fishing village with the only resort currently there is Sandals Whitehouse. Another area where there is no town. This resort was built from the ground up opening Feb. 2005. Where on the resort you would like depends on if you want quite or more active area.

Jamaica is an excellent place for a vacation! It is affordable over some of the other Southern islands which are more expensive. It is great for families, couples and singles.

I would love to help you with this; I just can't say enough good things about Jamaica IF you stay at the right property. Without knowing more information by asking you questions I can't recommend a property, because there are a few types to choose from and in asking questions a good agent can determine where they feel you will be most happy.

Feel free to email me and I can send you my contact information.

If you prefer to go local I would still strongly urge using a travel agent over trying to do this online. One resort that is right for your friend for example might not be right for you. I hope to hear from you! If I don't I still hope you choose Jamaica as a Destination and have a great time Mon!

Absolutly. It's hot and humid, but I'm from the south, so I'm used to it. Jamaica is BEAUTIFUL (the beaches anyway). I highly recommed it.
