Water is the most important, but many other nutrients are inprtant for growth, repair and to live, Protein for repair, Calcium for boesn and growth and Phosphorus to help the horse to grow and live
A daily suppliment will provide the daily requiremnets and then just feed the horse chaff and grain etc

I think it depends on what kind of horse you have. For example young horses need nutrients to make them grow, while other horses need nutrients that will keep their joints healthy. Of course all horses need water etc, but it really depends on your horse. If you feel your horse is lacking important nutrients, then maybe switching feeds would be a good idea.

There are lots of things important... Definately water, and LOTS of forage (such as grass and/or hay) as well as lots of minerals. try to feed salt blocks, liquid mineral feed, or look on a bag of complete feed for horses to get their required daily nutrients.
