Why is rap music the type of music that disrespects women the most?

Rap music, more than any other music, gives out negative things about women. Basically saying that women aren't anything more than sex toys for men.

because rap artists- if you can call them that, are usually "men" who are uneducated or disrespectful toward women anyway and besides the girls keep flocking to them so why bother changing the lyrics? It keeps dudes with some to bump to and females with some to fantasize about, perhaps being the next video ho or groupie

Rap 'artists' ( I use the term VERY loosely) are guilty of disrespecting women more than any other musical artists. Not only that, you don't see let's say country or blues or classical artists offing each other, or getting offed in record numbers or going to prison (except Johnny Cash & David Allen Coe). There are a lot of good musical styles/ genres out there! Once again, congratulations on taking a big step toward better culture!

Its a function of what receives airplay not a function of the genre. The variety and size of the rap body of music is expansive...ranging from gospel rap to politically and socially conscious rap to misogynistic, degrading crap.....the same can be said of punk or rock music...gospel rock to neo-nazi junk....Explore rap beyond the junk you hear on the radio.....you'll be suprised. Try artists like Common, Talib Kweli, The Roots, De La Soul....those are just some of the more popular, easy to find artists.....go old school and try Public Enemy. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!

There are a lot of women that listen to rap, but why would anyone willingly agree with such discriminatory mentality toward ones own ingroup?

I guess my answer is because they're either really stupid or deep down they don't really believe/agree with the lyrics of the music they enjoy.

I love rap music.. and I respect those who hate them.. but to tell, that all rappers are ignorant is lame.. shame on you.. don't be one sided.. there are those rap music who don't exploit women, and deal mainly on social problems.. politics, as the main target.. like 2pac or Bone Thugs.. and I won't be surprised if you don't know them at all coz in the first place, you don't have the time to listen.. all you see is the dark side of rap music.. let's face the reality.. in a clean sheet of paper, you try to look for a single dot of dirt and let it surface.. open your eyes people, in everything there's a good and a bad side.. there's no such thing as PURE evil or such..

I think it has something to do with the fact that a lot of rap music is about anger. Women aren't the only people that aren't treated with respect in rap music--it just kinda...disrespects people in general.

Of course, there's still rap music that DOESN'T...it's just a little harder to find.

well for one since women allow themselves to be degraded rap isn't the only place us males and some females talk down up other females rock,punk rock,alternative,70's bullshit all of it work, home, at the game, watching the game in everyday life women degrade us in music too but no one seems to get all pissed off about it i say suck that $#!T up and let whats going to happen, happen no matter how many blogs forums or whatever it is you do is going to change it
