In ancient times, both the Egyptians and Chinese believed in the bird "Phoenix", a colorful bird that would seem to land on something of great treasure. According to most legends, the Phoenix would destroy herself every 500-1,000 years, and emerge from the ashes again, reborn.

Not sure if that pertains to you, but it is the only "omen" or legend I know of that consists of a bird.

nec timeo nec spurno

neither fear nor despise

nec supersticio.
Be not superstitious.

I suppose you can just think of how "old" life sacrifices for new life. There's something beautiful in that, I guess. Your baby and the parakeet are part of the same world. (For a moment almost.) You can think of the bird leaving its worldly existence almost as a welcome to your baby's new worldly existence. It's still a little weird thinking like that though. I wouldn't put too much into it.

the poor bird. It was most likely caught by the neighbors cat in the cage when the owner wasn't looking, and unfortunately ended up on your driveway. Poor little thing.
