and you saved - of course, so you can't even get back into town until after you beat articuno (which is not true. at the save point, just go down to leave the dungeon)

you're stuck, you think, because even when you die, you go right back to the statue

however!

each time you end up dying, you save all of the exp you just got, so you can technically level while you fail, until you are strong enough.

articuno is level 33, so you'll need your pikachu at level 14 or 15 to be able to beat articuno in 1 hit.
