So, is it now fair to say that people voting Republican to try to outlaw abortion is a total red-herring so they can keep profiteering from this war?

"On the basis of historical precedent, the odds of George Bush appointing a 'strict constructionist' are not very good. I don't mean that to say anything bad about Bush. It just so happens that 7 of the current 9 Justices were appointed by Republican Presidents. In fact, stunningly, until Clinton appointed Ginsberg and Breyer, 4 Republicans Presidents appointed 10 consecutive Supreme Court Justices! And you can see how well that's worked out for us! Apparently our judges go bad and there's never do! Presidents Reagan and Bush had 5 shots to appoint a Supreme Court Justices who didn't hallucinate 'penumbras' and 'emanations,' but -- like 'Night of the Living Dead' -- 3 of the 5 are from the other side!" ............................ Ann Coulter, while participating in a panel discussion on "The Role of the Supreme Court," October 23, 2003.

"It has ... proved hard to predict how someone in another line of work will function as a justice and one sometimes wonders whether the appointee who turns out differently from the way the President who appointed him expected is not the rule rather than the exception. (Truman and Eisenhower are both reported to have regarded Supreme Court appointments -- Clark and Warren, respectively -- as the worst mistakes they had made as President.)" ............. Prof. John Hart Ely, "Democracy and Distrust," 1980.

It is "fair" to say anything thing you want to say. Some of us don't trust the Democrats any more than the Republicans to appoint the right kind of people to the Supreme Court. I firmly believe that serving on the Court inevitably corrupts everyone who serves there, regardless of how conservative, moderate, or liberal they are.
