The flag it is symbol of the south, a symbol of a country that once existed, although not always right but did exist, The war was about much more than just slavery, it was also about state rights. It was about democracy. All flags could be looked to many things such as genocide and etc, but yet we do not ask them for to be removed. I make these points for all, those who think and proudly fly it for the reson thinking it means supression.....is wrong. The Flag gave state rights. It gave us understanding of oursevles, a voice. As I am gay, I know in some odd way, and being from the south, and dated other race, I am diverse but yet the flag stood from an error gone bye but yet it is history and should not be forgotten? (once we forget history we could make the same mistake) So the southern cross although misused at times, should be condemed for the misuse of an object of history. It is up to all of us black, white, gay, straight, any religion to tolerate, love, educate and except.

The southern flag stands for all that the south was and could have been. While the confederate flag is flaunted today by "some" people who are racist, not all people who flaunt the confederate flag are racist. The confederate flag stand for wat could have been and what the people of the south and time wanted to be true and right. I am whole heartedly southern but i have no objections to people who are other races than white (being white myself). The confederate flag is a symbol that can either be rejected or accepted depending on your beliefs and nothin more in todays society.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of the treasonous and seditious act that several U.S. states took against the Union. Why those who claim to be so patriotic want to cling to it is beyond me.
And btw, the Confederate flag was not flown over South Carolina government buildings until the mid-1960's - the height of the modern civil rights movement.

The Confederate flag symbolises America's darkest days. Listen I wish you still waved that flag and that the Confederate States of America still existed.
The United States would still own 75% of the current country, it would still be the richest most powerful nation on earth. New York would still be the capital of finance, California would still have Hollywood, there would be skiing in Aspen, coffee in Seattle, and Eagles football. Oh yeah! The south would still be the same poor and down troden back water place that it is and always has and always will be.
I never understood the reason for sacrificing so many american lives for such a worthless cause.
Confederate flag in America has the same negativity of the Nazi Swastika in Germany.

It's a symbol of the former Confederate States of America, an entity that believed states should have the power to dictate the laws of their states and to over-ride the will of the federal government of the USA, which at the time was heavily biased to the industrial north, before they, the states of the CSA succeeded from the USA.

To me it symbolizes the civil war. I don't know why so many people keep saying it's racist. Yes slavery was in that time But thats not what the flag represents.

The Civil War was most definitely not about states rights. The Southern states were totally in favor of Federal power to enforce the fugitive slave laws. What could be more contrary to states' rights than to give sweeping powers to federal officers to capture fugitive slaves when they were found in states that only wanted to treat them as human beings? The Southern states only revolted against the Federal government when it would not agree to extend slavery to the territories. The only difference between the U.S. Constitution and the Confederate Constitution is that the Confederate Constitution guarantees slavery. So the Confederate flag is understandably seen as a symbol of oppression and racism, nothing more, nothing less.

The confederate flag is a rallying symbol for the south. One could argue that it's gained new meaning since the civil war, however that meaning seems to basically "don't nobody tell me what to do." That's a stupid reason to do something. If you really want to be ballsy, fly a swastika, something where the meaning is a clear statement that you're closed-minded, or shut up.

It SIMPLY means that the KKK, other White Supremacist groups, AND other rednecks want Blacks to return to physical slavery, want Native Americans to stop owning casinos, AND want people of EVERY OTHER RACE to go back where they came from! EVERY time I see a Confederate flag, I AUTOMATICALLY get offended AND I for DAMN sure have a right to get offended because these White Supremacist S.O.B.s want to put my people (I'm African American, BTW) back in slavery and burn crosses at churches where African Americans congregate! Those M.F.ers have the AUDACITY to tell us to go back to Africa, YET THEIR ANCESTORS are the ones who kidnapped OUR ancestors from the west coast of Africa because they were to damn lazy to grow their own sh1t!!! If they want us to go back to Africa so BADLY, why don't they buy us some f@#$in' plane tickets so we can go the f#$% back and they won't have to be bothered with us and we FOR DAMN sure don't have to be bothered with their inbred @$$es!!!! The next time I see ANY Confederate flag wavin', I'm gonna burn that motherf@#%er!!!!!!! F@#% KEEPIN' THAT OPPRESSIVE FLAG WAVIN' ON A FLAGPOLE!!!!!! White Supremacists don't even like gays, either! Do you ACTUALLY think they give a sh1t about YOU?!?!?! HELL NO!!!! I live in Georgia and I'm GLAD as hell that the Confederate symbol is NO longer on our State Flag!!!! Back in the day, if White Supremacists KNEW that you were gay AND you were dating somebody of color, your @$$ would be hung from a tree just like us and call you an "'n-word' lover" and the "Q" word!!!! Think about THAT SH1T!!!!!!!!!!!
