A yeast infection is when naturally occurring yeast cells (actually a fungus related to athlete's foot) experience a sort of population explosion and cause discomfort in the genital areas of women (and also men). Sometimes the conditions leading to the explosion of yeast cells are natural -- for example, many women find themselves subject to yeast infections during their periods, when the yeast has a constant food source. Sometimes the conditions are the indication of another medical issue -- for example, women suffering from undiagnosed diabetes often see recurring yeast infections, not realizing that it's the excess sugar excreted in the urine that is making the yeast cells grow out of control. And sometimes a borderline condition can turn into a yeast infection with something as simple as not drying off fully after a bath or a shower -- as with all fungus, yeast infections need damp, dark conditions to grow, exactly what happens inside clothing after incomplete drying.

The safest home remedy is prevention -- wash thoroughly and dry well. (If you have a partner and yeast infections are a problem for you, he should take preventive measures himself, such as showering soon after intercourse and drying thoroughly.) Barring this, there are a number of over-the-counter remedies for yeast infection. The active ingredient to look for is miconazole, an anti-fungal medication; while there are one-day courses of treatment, it's safest to use the three- or five-day courses. Do be sure to use the full dose for the full time, as this will ensure that the yeast cells are fully killed.

You should go to a doctor for the initial diagnosis, as there are other conditions (bacterial infections, as well as some STDs) that imitate yeast infections. However, your doctor will probably recommend an over-the-counter medication for you as these are generally effective if used properly and you have no other underlying conditions (such as diabetes) that contribute to the infection.

Yeast infection is a yeast overgrowth of yeast, usually in the gential area.

Wearing tight clothes is a contributing factor as well as, silky underwear(cotton lets you breathe) and certain antibiotics. Although it's not common, it can be spread through sexual activity.

As far as a home remedy goes, see my source below. I like the Hydrogen Peroxide douche(1 tsp ordinary 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and 1 cup water.) Use once daily. Use this at the first onset of any symptoms. The yogurt method is a bit messy... :o<

Basically its an imbalance of yeast in the vagina. There are many over the counter remedies and if you have good ins, you can get diflucan. A pill that you take once. Usually clears it up in a day or so. Once you have one, you have to use a medication. Either prescribed or OTC. After it's gone, there are things you can do to avoid getting another one. Such as, having plain yogurt. Just a little bit every other day or so helps out a lot. Wear clean white cotton underwear, drink cranberry juice, don't wear tight fitting clothing, change out of your wet bathing suit right away, thoroughly dry yourself off before getting dressed out of the shower... Here's a web site... Hope it helps.

A yeast infection is a heavy, frothy discharge, intense itching and burning with redness.
Thick cheesy discharge, intense itching and skin irritation.
Vaginal discharge with fishy odor.

A yeast infection is caused by hormonal changes and using different kinds of soaps and douches. Antibiotics can also cause a yeast infection while taking them.

Apparently the PH balance is distorted and the good bacteria are run off by nasty bacteria and it causes an infection.

I haven't had one since 1) I quit taking the pill, 2) quit using tampons, 3) stopped screwing my ex. I don't know which of those 3 was the contributor, but I kept them for a long time. I haven't had one in 10 years since I stopped all those.

You can drink cranberry juice to help with your Ph balance, eat yogurt to help build up the good bacteria, and wear cotton crotch underwear.
