Do you mean the economy is destrying the middle class?
If so, that means that the rich get richer. The poor can obtain government benefits to survive with food and healthcare. (even if there is no more welfare)
But what about the middle class? Well we work and live paycheck by paycheck and have two people in the house working. We barely make enough to pay mortgage and bills. We can't get assistance obviously because we are hard workers. BUT we can't get higher pay because upper management and company management are making about 3-4 times as much as us.
It is like the middle class cannot get ahead. The poor can always develop into middle class and the rich have it made in the shade and don't have to worry about none of this. We are stuck in the middle and soon as any disaster happens or a job is lost, we are in debt up to our necks. Then we get forclosed and become poor.

They are saying that the Bushies are pushing many middle class people into the poorhouse by making it so hard on them, by catering to Big Business. Bush wants to have rich people pay less taxes and put the bulk of his massive war spending on the backs of the middle class who are also dealing with high gas prices, high energy prices and all kinds of other high taxes. Heck, because of the Republicans, people can hardly even file bankruptcy anymore. When they say that, they are saying that there will be only the rich elite and the poor if this keeps up. That's why we need to vote for Democrats in November. Somebody needs to start giving back to the poor and middle class and start making these rich people pay for their stupid wars.

there are fewer and fewer households where one or two people can work 1 - 2 jobs and support a family, buy a house, go on vacation, save for college, and push kids to a higher station in life than they held - or at least to the same.
in america, the number of poor is going up, the number of rich is going up, and the number in the middle is going down.
this is an urgent problem, because societies where the income is pretty evenly (fairly) distributed, the societies are peaceful and productive with high scores on indicators of national well being. in countries where there is great disparity between rich and poor, rights are lost, governments tend towards despotism, and indicators of well being, like life span, infant survival, etc plummet.
when unions brought protections to the american working class, the middle class expanded terrifically, improving life for all. since the unions have been under assault, our standard of living is plummeting and the stability of society is at stake.

It means that the rich are growing richer, and the rest of us are growing poorer. The normal, Ed Everyday, like you and me, cannot get by on our earnings, thereby our 'Middle Class´ standard of living is dropping.
Middle Class = Lower Middle Class = In the street on your *ss!
