An electric guitar and amplifier is the perfect gift for a 13 year old. It's interactive, will help with math skills, chicks dig guys who can play guitar (he IS coming into puberty), will improve concentration, and gutars are just plain cool. There are many good starter instruments out there reasonably priced.
And maybe some lessons too. Who knows, he might be a prodigy and won't need the lessons!!!

A fun, Self Help book (teenagers need to read!) . And always, a gift certificate to target or circuit city. They always like music!
