Effort and Tenacity: The work makes the skill.
Defense: Work on your defense, especially, if they can't get by you on the one-on-one set, then you can definitely get by them offensively.
Shooting: A smooth shot from anywhere on the court can make the defense struggle.
Teamwork: Know the court and your surroundings.
First Step: Know the Lane, a wicked first step can do a lot for you and your teammates.
Court Vision: See the pass lane, and correctly pass
Hops: If you can dunk, you can definitely block. Just don't swat the ball to the stands. If you can, swat to a teammate or down court to receive and lay-up. Sky for the rebound.
Quick Feet: Gotta have quick feet to be a hound on defense.
Ball Handling: Work on the quickness of your moves. A quick crossover or spin can really make the defense work, thus, tiring them out for the long run.
Conditioning: people who can run all day and hardly break a sweat are a must for any team.

Personally, jumping is entirely overrated. Mainly because players want to jump for the purpose of dunking. I want my players to jump explosively and quickly...don't care whether they get the ability to dunk. I want them to be able to get off the ground quickly and repeatedly...not just for height. So, good jumping is underrated but jumping for dunking is overrated.
Anyhow, as a coach, obviously skills such as shooting, dribbling, defense, passing, are all important...you can't play if you can't do the fundamental basics!!
One skill I would like to add because it is entirely underrated and underutilized is the jump stop. If you can effectively and accurately do a jump stop, you can be nearly impossible to guard. Here are some reasons why: http://www.hoopsu.com/fundamentals101_jumpstops.html

So far every answer is wrong. I am a coach and have been for over 10 years. The real answer is fundamentals and determination.
If i had to pick certain skills, I would have to pick:
1. lateral movement
2. first step
3. smoothness of shot
