Have a 92 olds, 88 royle, 128,000 miles. Friday he put in a refurbished starter cuz it wouldn't always start, had to keep cranking it. I get it back Friday, starts good now but now engine light says service engine soon & car stalls when I put it in park. He says he had nothing to do with that issue, but, ran a scan, says low exhaust, low A/C freeon/ & anti theft problem. What is making my car shut off intermitent? It sounds kinda rough like it wants to stall & he said I have a broken motor mount $130.00 to fix it. Also, just an FYI, I had 20.00 in my glove box, they took it but put 5.00 back in the glove box. He denided it.

Time to move along based on the $20 alone. Get your car to someone else. I'm not sure about your car, but I'm pretty sure Advance or AutoZone will do that same test for you for free, and tell you how to fix it. Check that out too, and then get to another mechanic...ditch this guy.

I would think you have some other problem other than the starter to begin with, you probably burnt out your old starter because of a tune up problem . I would suggest new spark plugs and wires, and rescan again. The motor mount will not cause your engine to run rough, but on hard acceleration you might see you gear shift try to move, or if it is the other side it may happen in reverse. I would take this vehicle to another mechanic for a better evaluation. The stalling in park could be the fwd clutch Assembly in your trany

I'm a mechanic so I know people are very mistrusting. I'm an honest person and I don't appreciate customers who assume we're all crooks. There are plenty of possibilites to what is wrong with your car but, as he said, they were not connected to a starter job. Scanners don't lie and he did a free test to find out why the Check Engine Light was on. And how can someone think a motor mount makes the engine run rough? He fixed the starter and your car has other problems. Not his fault!!! As for money missing... do you have kids? Sheesh!!! Going thru the glovebox and leaving change? This guy is really desperate for $15. So go ahead, dump him for another crook. Maybe
the new one won't be quite as bad.

For starters, no pun intended your starter should have nothing to do with your problems. Its probably the low exhaust. I doubt that its a motor mount, but it is possible unfortunately I cannot diagnose the problem without being there. I recommend taking it to another mechanic. Always take your money out of the car when you go to the mechanic. I know allot of mechanics and they are generally not the most trustworthy. For future reference its a good idea to have your car looked at by more than one mechanic. Check what they say against each other

first of all, if the engine cranks there is absolutely nothing wrong with the starter, all the starter does is crank the engine. there is no such code as low exhaust, maybe lean exhaust? likewise there is no check engine light code for low ac freon. if it was in my shop i would zero in on the anti-theft problem. the broken motor mount won't make it stall either. i would venture to guess that you probably have a plugged catalytic converter, although that does not solve the anti theft problem

Ok he had my thumbs up until you told me about the missing $. Perhaps he has other mechanics working there and one of them took it...but I have to question...why leave change? Are you sure you had $20 in there?

As far as any of the other problems you are having with your car...it is totally coincidintal...replacing the starter has nothing to do with these issues. I don't think a broken motor mount would cause any of these problems...second opinion is in order. you can clear the codes by pulling the ecm fuse for a minute and replacing it...then see if them codes reset...by pulling this fuse...it does the same thing as disconnecting the battery cable...but your radio settings remain set.

Time to move on and find another mechanic. I am not saying he did this but' There are some mechanic's that will mess with your car just to get you to come back and spend more money. And just a note' Your exhaust could be clogged. The catalytic converter can cause this problem. It can get stopped up. When this happens it can cause ruff idling and stalling. In a nutshell' It can't breath.

It would be difficult to prove. However I can say that the running rough could be do to a damaged or lose spark plug wire that would be around the starter. as far as the Low Exhaust, AC codes thats probably a phantom code. I would have him clear the computer and see if they come back. I think your out of the 20 bucks. Sorry.

you'd want a doctors 2nd opinion, so likewise an honest mechanic shouldn't mind it if you want a 2nd opinion-from somewhere else. I never heard of "low exhaust", a broken motor mount doesn't cause stalling, and you can't detect either AC freon or antitheft problems with a scan. ht, your ignorant.
