They don't really turn off, what is happening is the way the lens is shaped it appears to turn off. I watched a friend who thought this was true also but I stood back and he walked up to it and for him it seemed to turn off but where I stood it was still lit. Try it with your friends.

Yeah it happens when Im out walking around the neighbourhood lol at first I thought I was like enchanted but I saw this show that said it has something to do with where you're stepping and it somehow shocks the ground or something to shut off the light temporarily.

Wow! I didn't know this happened to anyone else! There is a certain street light that hangs over a road I drive on, and every time I drive under it, it flashes once, then it goes out. I keep driving and glance back a couple of times, and it never comes back on! It's happened time and time again. Weird! Thanks for bringing it up, but I really don't know why it does that.

OK...I'll admit this question does really sound dumb, but I swear sometimes I have the same thing happen to me.(Not Kidding)
Maybe it's pure coincidence, and certain lights just go out.
I notice this when I am driving. A street light will go out as I am about to go under it. (I do not take drugs in case you wonder)

I noticed that this happened a lot to me also. I asked someone who worked for the utilities company and was told that the lights are on timers and set to turn off for a while so that power is saved.

okay, here's what it is: energy goes in one foot, out the other in friction when you walk and goes in sync with the earth's gravity and interacts with the nrg everywhere in the atmosphere. plus 90 voltz of electricity runs through the human body. with this amount of voltz and our nrgies interacting with others around us, depending on how it flows through your body and interacts with other people and things, it can cause a short circuit in the street light. it sux for me. i like taking walks at night, but can't any more. it's so much a phenomenon, but a science. i still think it's kewl though!

I know that I have thought that same question to myself. I beleived it is was because I have 16 eeee feet and jar the ground but if it happens to others then I must be wrong. and it must be the magical quilitys of the Yeti people. I am Yeti. Mr Sky Forest Yeti to you human.we are everywhere. we have mind control abilitys, that obviuously is the reason.

Actually when this happens it means that something in the light needs to be changed and you should call your local hydro company to let them know. I just went through this with the streetlight in front of my house and it has since been fixed after bringing it to their attention.

depends upon where you are as some are controlled by sensors when needed and others automatically turn off at certain times of the day or night to conserve energy
