I for one have yet to see a Hollywood production equal any Asian Horror upon which it is based. I believe our domestic versions are generally pathetic because they overly emphasize teens and youth so as to make the extra dollar. I suppose Sarah Geller is merely our icon of Japan's cash-cow Godzilla. Well at least it's a step up from Allyson Hennigan and (ugh) Willow.

I think they can't capture the Japanese imagery and how the plot blends with the characters. I thought the ring was twisted and scary.
The grudge was okay. I believe the The Grudge was american adaptation of a Japanese movie by a japanese director.
Plus I am not to sure that North American audiences are not ready to accept japanese horror, it more use of the mind then gore and blood.

I thought "The Ring" was way scarier than the "Ringu" series from Japan. But I agree that the remake of "Ju-on" wasn't as good as the Japanese version. American remakes should reserve the lead rolls to better and more diverse actors and actresses.

Because. No matter what countries are involved. A remake Is still just a remake. And remakes are rarely, if ever, better than the original. The only prejudice involved here is that WE as an audience are always more kindred to the original than a remake. :-)

i assume because of the fact they have been so often happening in Japan they figured that they had make the main of them. i certainly cherished the ring extra effective than ringu. Ringu develop into tremendously boring. yet Ju-On destroys the grudge!
