If you listen to the lyrics you will discover that not all heavy metal is "angry". It is passionate and loud, but that is a form of expression. The electric guitars and drums, which are the heart of heavy metal, beg to be played loud. The lyrics are often about love and life. Listen to Led Zeppelin for example. I don't recall much anger there.

If a person is feeling bad in his/her life, sometimes listening to angry music like heavy metal provides a temporary fix by making the person feel angry or numb instead of sad. In my way of seeing things, there's a big difference between not feeling bad and feeling good. I think this is a sad way to live.
(I'm not sure I'd classify Led Zeppelin as heavy metal, either. At least quite a few of their songs are either American folk songs or blues.)

i dont know
but i do know that i like it... or at least some of it
metallica, tool, alice in chains, nirvana, stone temple pilots, soundgarden
some of that may not really be metal, but its all of a similar genre of music
i think some of it may be less because they are actually angry, and more because they are exploring the dark side of human nature
this i think is especially true for tool and metallica
kind of like psycological literature
be careful not to mistake noise for anger, i havent heard that much metal that truely seems angry to me
