Giordano Bruno, the astronomer got burned because he tried to prove Catholic the Earth goes around the Sun and rejected geocentrism.

Gosh I never heard of that one, because it was known long before Christopher Columbus that the world was round.

The man who risked death was the one who said the planets and stars did NOT go around the earth, and the earth moved around them. He was threatened with death if he did not repent his blasphemy. Try Copernicus. He recanted his statement, and was spared. Blechhh!!!!
