Hun,smoking a cigarette and inhaling cigarette smoke are two different things.Smoking the cigarette actually exposes you to nicotine(SP?),and it allows it to be in your system. However, inhaling second-hand smoke from a cigarette does not expose you to the nicotine(Sp?Again). It can effect the person inhaling the smoke, because it enters their lungs, and therefore can cause lung cancer or breathing problems. The one smoking it,is also at risk for such illnesses because they are inhaling it as well. The nicotine is what one becomes "addicted" too,not particularly the smoke itself. If you think about it,if something is burning, you inhale smoke, and you do not become addicted.Same situation here,if you smoke, you are getting that drug(nicotine),and the second-hand smoke is simply that.Again,i am no expert on smoking cigarettes, this is my mere opinion on the issue and what i believe causes that.Have a good day!!
Ok,and i must edit, lol. The person who answered first has no right to call anyone stupid. That is not an answer to your question. This a legit question that deserves an accurate answer. It is in the teen section because her son asked(if you had read all of her question).

Second hand smoke is just the smoke a small amount of the chemicals. When you're smoking the cigarettes however, you are taking all the chemicals into your body.
Although it probably won't lead to him becoming addicted, it may lead to him also smoking in the future if he doesn't already. It may also prevent him from doing it, depending on what his view is of you doing it. If he feels that it's acceptable he'll probably end up smoking, if he doesn't like it, he probably won't.
But no, not from what I know, second hand smoke is not addicting.

nicotine is the addicting substance in cigarettes. This is only inhaled through the actual cigarette, meaning second hand smoke is not addictive. On that note kids who grow up in smoking households are 73% more likely to smoke. Researchers are not sure why, but it probably has to do with the fact that the smell does not bother them as much as a nonsmoker. Plus, these kids don't have a good example to live by.. if you do it, its hard for you to tell him not to do it. (and its even harder for him to believe) do your son a favor and quit smoking, second hand smoke is extremely dangerous by itself, plus the likelyhood he will start smoking himself.

Second hand smoke contain everything that the smoker is inhaling into his/her lungs. And smokers are usually addicted tot he nicotine, the regularity of having a cigarette, ex. keeps the hands busy, aftyer eating, or before to curve appitite. but theres lots of people who dont smoke even thoght there parents do. will the child might wanna try it, yea but so does other kids. The only problem here is that second hand smoke kills, so if your smoking try not smoking in the house and in fdront of your child. Cause right now your child is not choosing to smoke your choosing for him by smoking around him.

The addictive chemichal in cigarettes is nicotine, this enters your blood when you smoke, this is not the substance that causes cancer. The reason why second hand smoke and smoking are so bad is not bacause of the nicotine but because of the smoke itself, it's full of carcinogens. People do not get addicted to the carcinogens, just the nicotine.

Good question. I think I started smoking because I thought it was cool. Kid's learn things from the examples we set for them, so if they see you smoke, it must not be too bad. Both of my parents smoke so I saw it and was around it all my life, in fact, my mom smoked when she was pregnant with both my sister and I. Things that make you go mmmm....I wonder if it's their fault I became addicted...Not really, once you're a certain age, you start making decisions for yourself..if they aren't healthy choices, you know better, you just do things out of seeing someone else's habit (if that makes sense).

Concentration level..
They get a huge dose ! The liver reacts by giving more sugar.
Then the brain likes it, and wonders where it all went ?
That causes you to want to do it more. Its all about sugar level.
Whatever the brain can do to get it it will. It lives off sugar.
Smoking gets it there fast !
That's why people can't stop doing it.
If you have not started... DON'T its expensive !!!!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
And it sucks.. You stink and so do all your belongings...
I can think of a better habit for him, but he is probably a pro
already... 8-)

I think it's the nicotin that is addictive and that is not passed on through the second hand smoke.

i think that your opinion is not accurate due to availability bias.
there are people that smoke that do not get addicted (like a friend of mine...she smoked all through college...after she graduated, she was done with smoking...just used it to keep her awake)
i have other friends that started smoking cuz both of their parents smoke...they blame it on the 2nd hand smoke...who knows really...
