If the point of the lesson is to not overuse the word "it"
try writing some sentences by replacing "it" with the word "it " replaced in the first place.
Example:
Ichiro Suzuki made a super human leap to grab the baseball before it could leave Safe-co Field. He hurled it to Martinez at second who fired it to Olerud at first who then threw it like a rocket to Smedling at home plate.
Too many "its".
Better would be:
Ichiro Suzuki made a super human leap to grab the baseball before it could leave Safe-co Field. He hurled it to Martinez at second who fired it to Olerud at first. Then Olerud launched the baseball like a rocket to Smedling behind the plate.
Use your judgment as to what sounds good. For instance some might say that the "it" before Olerud should be changed to "the ball". I tried that and it didn't sound natural to me so I left in the "it".
It's your call; just don't overuse the same word.

Our language has many words that people do not use on a daily basis. Read books and study vocabulary words, then the dictionary and thesaurus to understand their meanings and similar words. You then will be able to use words other that "it". Often sentences have been shortened and many informative conversations are lost. Hope you try this and commit to studying words regularly
