This country went wrong when we, as a nation, stopped trying to compete with the rest of the world in the late 19th. C. and early 20th C., and stopped investing in our industry. The British were making enough money out the Empire to bother to look what American, Japan and the rest of Europe was doing.
When we lost the Empire, suddenly there was no one willing to buy our shoddy and old fashioned goods made in expensive and obsolete factories. In terms of trade we were cut to ribbons, with America being the main beneficiary.
But lets not bemoan our fate. If we remember to defend our civil liberties, earned through hard centuries of strive, civil war and conflict, we can still maintain pride in ourselves and our history.

Probably when we stopped thinking about why this country was great and started to think that we are just "Great" and didnt need to do any more. After that it was only a small step from being the USA's poodle

being to soft getting rid of capital punishment bring back the hanging off with there heads then we will never have repeat offenders in rape, grooming, murder, the whole country is $h1t and a civil war is not to far away
