I am 31 and I had my tonsils out last year. Don't worry about it. When you wake up, you will still be full of pain killers so you won't feel a think. It may be difficult for you to talk at first, I wasn't able to get out more than one word at a time. (That might have been the anasthesia).
I suggest that you take Ibuprophen as soon as you are able because it will keep the swelling down and reduce the pain. (I am biased against narcotics and didn't take any after I got home.) I didn't feel much pain at all until I got thrush.
Speaking of which, if they give you liquid antibiotics make sure you wash it down with a whole lot of water. Rinse your mouth out good or you will get thrush too. Trust me, you don't want that.

Hey there! I gotta say it's been a LONG time since I had that done, but as I remember it was just like having a real bad sore throat for awhile. Ya know where it's scratchy and you live off ice cream and soup. The less you try to talk the quicker you will feel better. All will be fine, try not to worry too much!! Good luck!!

Don't worry.
It's a little painful, and uncomfortable grogginess from the anaesthesia, but it's much better to have it done now when you're younger.
Truthfully, it's like a really really bad strep throat, only it feels better a lot quicker. Yes, it's gonna be pretty annoying when you wake up, but that's all. Annoying.
Try not to be worried and tense. Relax and let go. It'll be done before you know it.
Best!

I had my tonsils out and it really wasn't that bad. I would say I felt the most pain the morning after the surgery but they give you meds for that so don't worry! It won't be as bad as your probably imagining!!!! Best of luck!

I could lie to you and tell you that it doesn't hurt but I am not going to do that! It hurts and it gets worse with age. I had mine out when I was 15 and it was tough. Just remember that the pain will go away...eat a lot of cold things like ice cream. I hope someone is around to care for you while you recover! You will make it...I will keep you in my prayers! Good luck kid!

My son had his taken out a couple of months ago. When he woke up he was talking and joking around. Got him home and he ate 2 plates of cheese grits. He just turned 9.

Your throat will be very sore. Swallowing will be difficult. The MD should prescribe something for the pain. You'll do fine.

No, you will not be in any pain, you will be a bit goggy when you wake up, but besides that when you wake up there isn't any pain. Afterwards may be uncomfortable but they nurses should keep your comfortable.
