Are you having trouble reading it? Understanding it? If so, it could be that you need to approach it differently. Maybe try watching the film versions. Kenneth Branagh and Mel Gibson both have played Hamlet. The older version with Laurence Olivier is excellent as well.

If you have trouble reading it, try No Fear Shakespeare (SparkNotes). Lynch Multimedia also has a great prose version. I would even encourage you to read a summary first and then tackle the language.

This is really an enjoyable play, it just may take a couple readings. Trust me. I used to cringe at the very thought of having to read Shakespeare. Now, I embrace it!

Hamlet is quite possibly one of the best and most complex of all Shakespeare's plays. I am teaching it to my students now. If you need help understanding it, please e-mail me and I will help you as much as I can. imhalf_the_sourgirl_iused_tobe@yahoo.com

I have found that once most students understand Shakespeare, they fall in love with it.

I despise Hamlet - I had to do it 3 times in school.
Everyone dies - it's depressing.
I perfer the comedies - my Favorite is Much Ado About Nothing!
The Kenneth Brannah and Emma Thompson movie version is good too.

I love English and reading but I have to admit I've never been a big fan of Shakespeare, who I find rather over-rated.

the "english" is so tough, i just cannot get thru it. I'd rather watch a movie than a play any day of the week.
