When a person sits and stares at the wall and cries for no reason....It could mean that the individual is not ready to face the person or problem, ( thus they face the wall) there is always a reason tears flow...if it's a hard sobbing cry it usually indicates deep , buried pain. if it's a more hysterical cry the person is probably suffering from some post traumaticstress and something has triggered the memory / event in this case the individual is not conscious of exactly what event the tears / trauma is connected to. Tears are the way our bodies cleanse themselves, spiritually, and soulfully, When we feel a physical pain or wound the tears are our natural response to the pain and stress. Tears are unspoken words...and symbolically they usually do represent a memory resurfacing into one consciousness. If it appears that there is no apparent reason for the crying ---deep work needs to be done to uncover the reasons. A good friend who knows how to listen, and ask the right questions...or an office visit to a reputable shrink can help resolve the mystery.

Awww, if you're talking about yourself *gives you a giant bear hug* ....

It can mean many different things. You could be totally numb from a previous experience and all you can do is just sit and cry. It's sort of like your body is protecting yourself from doing anything else.
You could be completely and utterly depressed. So you don't feel like you could do anything except cry.
Perhaps crying is the perfect outlet.
The wall isn't threatening so perhaps it makes the perfect "companion" in a way.
And maybe there is a reason but you don't want to acknowledge it. You're more comfortable sinking deep within yourself and allowing the tears to take rein.

Whatever it is, you should just... question what has been going on in your life. Take a step back and look at yourself. Really look. Define your sadness or tears into something comprehensible and logical. And then write about it, paint, scream, cry... just let it out. Take a deep breath. And let go.

Easier sad then done but once it's done, it's totally worth it.

I wish I had seen this question sooner. Well, others have already covered most of the obvious things-- depression, see a doctor/ psychologist, make sure that you talk to a friend and that others know how you are, even if it seems minor. I'm not qualified to comment on how a person's monthly problems might affect their emotions, and I don't want to dismiss anything lightly.

I'm not a doctor; I don't even play one on TV, and diagnosis at a distance is generally difficult if not impossible. But please remember that all of us here on YA are friends. We're NOT from the government, and we're here to help! We're rooting for you!

I'm also going to pray for you. As I said, I'm not a doctor, but I know Someone who is smarter than all the doctors put together. Please post some additional details to let us know when you're feeling better!

It is called a crying jag and it is normally a symptom of something else like depression, hysteria, post traumatic stress, or post menstral syndrome. Basically the person has been repressing emotions and they are surfacing all at once. Therapy may help. Anti depresents may help. Have the person see a doctor to see what would be the best way to proceed.

That depends.........long periods of time would be more worrisome. Just the few minutes you have between asking these inane questions to total strangers probably just indicates emotional weakness or clearly too much free time on your hands. Try staring at a mirror instead of a wall it may be much more insightful for you. Good Luck

Nice answer,Jess B. If you're going to be a smart guy,at least use spell check.

It sounds like someone's having a bad day. Not knowing the situation, maybe it's best to get it out of your system. If the depression persists,it might be a good idea to talk to a friend or
family member.

That something is troubling you. Could be you just need to cry and process whatever it is, but usually it's better to talk to someone about it. Call a friend and get it off your chest. Nothing a shoulder to cry on and a big hug can't fix..

It means it's monday, Sis. If it's not Monday, then it means you're staring at the wrong wall...Find one that makes you smile, and that's where you're supposed to be.
