Are you certain that there is indeed global warming? I realize that people have been tugging at the issue for years, but there is no substantial proof that this warming effect is not a cyclical phenomena. We have no proof about the last 50,000 years from the estimated period of the Ice Age. Counting tree rings is hardly an answer and the oldest know trees are less than 3,000 years...perhaps this situation occurs every ten thousand years. Fossils date much further back and we know that some cataclysmic event, a massive volcano or perhaps even a meterorite created so much dust that the earth was blanketed and brought about the sudden extinction of the dinosaurs. That took place about 65,000,000 years ago...just days ago, Norwegian paleontologists announced the discovery of a dinosaur 'graveyard' with the fossils of ichthyosaurs and pleisosaurs (perhaps cousins of the Loch Ness Monster) on an Island about 800 miles from the North Pole. Because both types of dinosaurs were marine (living in salt water), we then can assume they died in the water...but the 'graveyard' is now situated on a hillside some distance from the sea, but also that the water level was much higher at that time...Global Warming? Island can rise and sink because of volcanic activity but the island shows no geological suggestion that that was so. Perhaps too, this is a natural event in that as the temperature increases, so does evaporation and thusly more rain, so could it be that it is a cleansing system to remove pollutants from the atmosphere? There are many far-fetched theories and one is from Australia where scientists claim that cows are a major source of pollution. Herbivores produce methane gas as they digest grasses, fodder and such, and with the vast number of cows and other herbivores, our atmosphere is contaminated. It makes little sense as in America were vast herds of bison, and the plains of Africa still have millions of grazing animals...both past and present. The die-off of marine organisms is often linked to man-made problems...oil spills, dredging, sewage and such...i.e. the Thames River of England was so polluted years ago that no fish could exist...the environmental agency cleaned it up by stopping sewage, etc and now 10 species of fish have returned. We build dams and prevent floods and deprive vital nutrients to the sea. In Asia, DDT was introduced to protect the crops and successfully killed many species of fish and birds (most potent when used with oil as the solvent). Few people understand that a tree does many things besides provide wood, it retains soil but also transpires a substantial amount of moisture into the air...and we cut down the forests. We cover vast areas with tarmac and concrete and deaden the soil. On my last visit to Mt. Kilimanjaro, I noticed the reduction of the ice caps and glaciers but I didn't come away with any firm conviction of a drastic change. In Tibet, I visited the glacial rivers but they seemed much unchanged, and the peak of Mt. Everest seems to have the same amount of snow and ice. The only tangible proof I have found is that some of the tropical marine life in the Sea of Cortez have move further north, but that could be explained by a shifting of currents, rather than an actual change in the climate. Many scientists and indeed researchers need to 'publish or perish' to justify their tenure and make statements couched with the word 'MAY'...rather than definitive statements....that justifies grants and bequests....and now the medical community is falling guilty of the same...Japanese researchers found that drinking green tea may prolong life...etc. Take things with a very large grain of salt and don't depend on the media to be either honest or truthful.

I have mixed opinions because scientists have mixed opinions. Weird, isn't it? they both have degrees in the same thing, yet differing opinions. But, I will tell you this. I watch lots of Discovery channel and they do all kinds of documentaries on this stuff, and so far the majority is of the normal weather pattern. the earth goes through stages, the ice ages and meltdowns...
(dont know the actual term) and right now we are melting... supposedly this is normal.
the only other thing that i know is we had record breaking temps this Summer, which some would think is because of global warming, however, the previous record set was in the 1940s... SO OBVIOUSLY we had these sorts of temps before you know?
~edit.... however, if this is happening, are we the only country in the world causing this? I mean, come on. and the guy below me... iammoviemaven... if liberals knew about this for a decade, why haven't they done anything about it?

Global warming is a fact confirmed by thousands of scientists. The fact is, carbon dioxide has reached levels we've never seen before. The exact correlation between these levels and temperature appears to be fairly direct. During the time of dinosaurs they were fairly high. During the ice ages they were very low. Now they are off the chart.
Liberals have been talking about global warming for over a decade. Detractors would have you believe it is a coincidence that the 8 hottest years in recorded history have all come in the last decade. Or that Japan had 50% more typhoons than at anytime in their history. Or that the icecaps are melting. Or that the US got hammered by the strongest hurricane in our history last year.....All things liberals said would happen....Just like we said going into Iraq was a huge mistake....Man, we sure do get tired of being right all the time!

hi Clare Brien. "Do you appreciate each and every physique's opinion while it includes international warming?". sure. — yet that does no longer recommend I could accept as true with the belief in the back of. as a fashion to cajole an ignorant, we first could settle for the ignorant's OPINION. So, we (of course) have (are compelled to) appreciate the ignorant opinion too, wether we like it or no longer, a minimum of to 3 volume of time. — something of it quite is a question of argumentation. — So it quite is uncomplicated: »I appreciate your opinion on international warming, even if, yet i do no longer accept as true with unrelated claims». "Do you think of human beings could shop quiet a pair of scientific concern while they are blind to the technology? what's your take?" — No, Clare, actual NO. — an possibility to cajole an ignorant is often given the 2nd the ignorant expresses an opinion: it quite is the only divine 2nd of proposal the place expertise (and certainty) could be ordinary. Please, shelter those moments as diamonds, gold and the main invaluable of all issues. With type greetings, bj

Not really happening. NASA measures the planet's temperature every year, and so far the average temperature has not changed as much as 0.1 degrees. When it melts a glacier over there, it gets colder over here.
If you can obtain the CD's from National Geographic magazine, in the late 1890's there was a fast glacier melt off, and in the early 1900's the glaciers came back.
Since I graduated from High school in 1960, we have had several stupid cycles. First they said the ice age was coming back, because in 1960 and in 1961 we had very large amounts of snow, though not historical amounts.
Then, we had predictions of the planet burning up..
Back and forth, depending on the recent weather.
Give it up.

It's nothing more than cycles happening on Earth that's been happening for millions of years. We had global warnings and cooling over the coarse of time. Not to mention the sun is getting bigger and it also goes through cycles, but that's MY opinion and it's based on scientific studies.

My opinion about Global Warming is that it is damaging the Atmosphere Worldwide. It has to be controled the leading Industrial countries such US, England and Japan have the most responsiblity to control it.
They would not follow the rules made for it as their self-interest is involved they would never let thier economy to be damaged by such rules they have to coose one option. Adnavce or rescue the enviroment.

No real concerns... it's mostly hype and not likely to have a human cause... and certainly not a Human cure. We'll just have to deal with it, as mankind and life in general has from the beginning.

The earth's temperature fluctuates naturally. It will get much hotter regardless of human influence. And then it will get colder afterwards, again regardless of human influence.
