The sport of NASCAR was created in the South, and the Stars & Bars has long been a symbol of the spirit of the South. However, it's only a symbol of hatred & racism if you are ignorant of its true historical meaning and decide view it that way. To paraphrase a bit from the rest of the article in today's news (which I'm guessing you didn't have time to finish reading in your frenzied rush to get over here and spread some disinformation) most people feel the Stars & Bars is about heritage, not hatred. It was not the flag of the Southern States, it was a Confederate battle flag during the US Civil War, a conflict that was fought over the question of preserving the USA as a single union or splitting it in two. The Civil war, and that flag that was raised over the Southern armies, had nothing to do with racism or slavery at all. The flag was never meant to symbolize oppression, though some have hijacked it to use it in that manner. It has been used in racist, segregationist ways by some ignorant & hateful people; during the 20th century the Ku Klux Klan and other less violent pro-separation groups frequently used it to represent their causes. But just because the flag was hijacked doesn't mean the hijackers should be allowed to define it, nor does it mean that everyone views it as a symbol of hate. The KKK also used the Christian cross as a symbol of their hatred, does that mean we should ban the cross? Of course not. The same goes for the Confederate flag, it should be viewed as a symbol of the spirit of the South, and as a sign of respect for those who fought & died for what they felt was a good cause in the Civil War. It should not be banned just because some people choose to see only the negative parts of its history and deliberately ignore the good.

What fool. An attempt to attack the south. I'm African American by the way. The confederate flag is a symbol of southern heritage. After the Civil War, the flag was hijacked by racist hate groups like th KKK but your ignorant a** won't understand that. Even some Black people wear the flag on their clothing, especially famous southern Black rappers like David Banner and Lil John. They wear to represent the south.
We all know your true and twisted intent on asking such a question. I know many southerners are HATED by the north. Even among northern Blacks and Southern Blacks.
A little education for your a**.
You should be reported for competence.

Its not a symbol of racism. It is just taken as such. Only to shallow people who can be offended by a flag. If it is a symbol of racism, why isn't a White Colonel Suit a symbol of racism? That is what the men who owned slaves were always wearing then. Why isn't any picture of anything that is of steroetypes a symbol of racism? (as in: watermelons, chicken, etc.) Nobody considers these things racism. So why the flag?

The confederate flag is not a symbol of racism. People who are so quick to pull the race card are usually racists themselves.

I'm sure you can find plenty of signs of racism, either overt or not, if you look hard enough with some idiot that is offended easily enough.
