Is the scale consistent? In other words, does it start at 0 and go up by 10's and then suddenly go up by 100?

Is the scale reasonable? If the two numbers being graphed are 1000 and 1000.1, it's not reasonable to have a scale that goes from 1000 to 1000.1 by increments of .001 -- it makes the difference look huge when it's not.

Are the things being graphed comparable? For example comparing "Number of students who would get help on their homework on a website" with "Fine upstanding Americans" is a misleading comparison.

Labelling - clear and consistent.
Spacing - are data points consistently spaced in the graph
Date - some information "wears" out quickly
Unless computer generated, graphs usually are straight lined. Curves are hard to compute. If the lines are straight, then it is highly likely there will be one or more bends. Are they tight, i.e. is the end of the up on the same level as the start of the down.

check the data, the source of the data, and that the increments are set equally..... for example if the graph goes 5, 10 15, 35, 50, 55, then you know it is unsound.

Information graphics or infographics are visual representations of information, data or knowledge. These graphics are used anywhere where information needs to be explained quickly or simply, such as in signs, maps, journalism, technical writing, and education. They are also used extensively as tools by computer scientists, mathematicians, and statisticians to ease the process of developing and communicating conceptual information. They are applied in all aspects of scientific visualization.
