I am looking to buy my first laptop, and every store says theirs is the best. I just need one to browse the net, download some music, burn a few cd's and load photos. Which is the one to go with? I don't want to spend a fortune. I have been looking a NEW ones on Ebay but have no idea about the ram and MG's ect. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Definitly an Apple Macbook.

They have a lot of different options for whatever you want to do with your computer. They have many cool features and has some of the best, easiest to use, and fastest software for music and photos. Mac's just make sense, the computers run much faster and smoother than PC's which is no surprise because what else would you expect when the operating system the computer uses is made by the same company as the actual computer.

Trust me - I was using PC's all my life up until earlier this year and I do not regret it one tiny bit. It's the best thing I've done with technology so far in my life.

Theres no better way to go.

Hi :-) Me and 4 of my friends have all recently purchased 'Toshiba Satellite' laptops and we're ALL VERY HAPPY! No matter what brand, try to find one that is 'Centrino'. 'Centrino' means the laptop has a Pentium M processor AND a BUILT-IN Intel Pro Wireless connection. If it's Centrino then you won't have to spend an extra 100bucks to get on the net ;-) Since you want to do some music and photos, try to get the biggest hard drive and the most RAM that you can afford. My 2 friends that picked out Toshibas with Celeron processors are pleased. These cost 499-599. Mine has the Centrino Duo, so I can do more things at the same time, faster. I paid 1000 for mine, with 120 gig HD and 1 gig ram memory. For half that much, you can get a 60, sometimes 80 gig HD and 512mg ram memory. All Toshibas in this series come with a DVD Multi-drive which recognizes 11 formats. So you can burn ANYTHING! Some Toshibas, like mine, come with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 which is AWESOME, especially for organizing and enjoying music, pictures, movies, dvds, videos, you can record and pause live tv, etc... Yep, I'm a happy camper...LOL! The batter lasts about 3.5 to 4.5 hours depending on what I'm doing. But I mostly use the power cord anyway. The screen and the way dvds/video looks is the cherry though ;-) You WILL want better external speakers though. Hope this helps a little. I did a LOT of research for a long time before I decided on my Toshiba Satellite and I'm glad I did! It's just great! What I did was if I saw a laptop in an ad or on the net that I was interested in, then first I'd check to see what the ad had to say. Then I would go to the laptop brand's website and LEARN all about it. THEN, and this is one of the most important steps, I would type the model number into Yahoo Search and read some message boards with other people talking about the exact model I'm interested in. These message boards will give you all the pretty and ugly. Good Luck to ya! :-)

get a laptop with more than 1 gb ram with more than 100gb of hard drive space if possible and a core duo processor with higher than 1.7 ghz.

note: there is a new type of hard drive coming out that is best paired with the Windows Vista and it is called Hybrid Hard Drives. Oh, also wait until Windows Vista is selling with new computers so you dont have to waste a fortune on the software

I would recomend an Acer Aspire laptop. You can buy the one like mine for 498 US Dollars. It comes with a 1.7 Ghtz Pentium M, 512MB DDR2 RAM, 40GB Hard drive, Wireless G and Bluetooth, 14.1 inch widescreen, DVD/CD-RW combo drive, 3 USB 2.0 ports, PCMCIA CardBus typeII slot. They also don't load it down with "trial" software; they only put thier EmPowering technology on it. Acer also has great tech support, too.

If you're looking for a pretty good deal, check out Dell's laptops. I have looked at a few of them, considering to get one, and I liked the results I got. I personally think the E1505 Inspiron is a really good deal right now.

you didn't tell of what price range you're thinking, but for what you wanna do, you can get a brandnew laptop from HP, let's say a dv2000t and you can configure it yourself.
processor: Core Solo T1350 (Centrino processor)
ram: 1GB
hard disk: 80GB
price: $730
it will do the job pretty well
