What is the value of public speaking as an academic course and as a competitive event?

as an academic course it gives you the knowlege of the structure of how to present. for those who are scared of speaking publicly it may build their confidence, and it gives you tips that are integral, like etiquette, tone, pronuncation, audience awareness etc.

Coming from a communications major and a life long debator and speech competator these courses and activities are more valuable then you could believe. The ability to speak clearly and in such a way that the audience recieves your point is important in every career that exsists. Without communication and the ability to spread communication through the masses we don't have a society we have a community of ignorance.

Plus being able to speak pretty always helps with the ladies ;-)
