Renaissance means rebirth, so technically the main focus of Renaissance Art was to bring back the classics of ancient Greece and Rome. They loved the "old" ways and therefore the sculpture and design of ancient Greece and Rome was often imitated. The artists also went by the slogan, "Man is the Measure" they truly believed that man (or humans) were God's greatest creation. Their art depicted the beauty of man in many ways, usually nude. The great artists during the Renaissance even went as far as to perform autopsies on cadavers to study their muscles, bone structures, etc. to make sure their form was truly captured in sculpture or paint.

As far as Medieval Art, lets see what I remember... I believe that both during the Renaissance and Medieval Times, their favorite subject to paint was religious. However, during Medieval Times, their style was darker and gloomy and by far more gruesome.

Hope this helps.

Here are your main differences.

Medieval art was usually based on religious iconography, it lacked depth/perspective and the main patrons were the church.

Renaissance art saw the birth of Humanism although religious works were still popular. The works had depth due to the discovery of sigle point perspective by Brunelleschi and patrons included the church, the wealthy merchant classes, the guilds and Ducal city state rulers.
