I have students who ask me about things on the board. Sometimes I make a mistake; sometimes they are wrong. If I am wrong I am really glad that they ask me so that everyone in the class will have the right way and not be confused. If they are wrong... I am still glad that they ask me so that I can explain it better.
Once I had a kid say YOU ARE WRONG MRS. L! That was just rude. But when a kid says "I think that there may be a mistake on number 7" and I double check and we clarify it then there is no problem.

Yes, depending on the type of mistake the teacher made; for example if it's a spelling mistake or a wrong number on the board you can politely point it to the teacher during class time. If the mistake is greater you should talk to the teacher personally not in front of the class. There are two things however you should never do:
1.- Don't embarass the teacher in front of the whole class, you wouldn't like it as a student much less as a teacher because it might look like you are defying the teacher's knowledge and preparation.
2.- Don't talk about the problem with any other teacher before you clear it up with the teacher who had the problem. Give your teacher an opportunity to rectify the mistake before you comment it with anyone else.

If a teacher is writing a math problem on the board wrong the students should correct them. I think teachers should be informed if they are showing students the wrong way to do something.

Students should DEFINITELY correct their teachers! Otherwise, how will the other students learn? The teacher might actually know the answer and he/she just has it mixed up in her head at that moment (saying the wrong thing), or it might be a case where the teacher has misunderstood something or guessed the wrong answer. Either way, it's not fair to your classmates to keep your mouth shut!

talk to the teacher one-on-one. DO NOT try to embrass the teacher in front of everyone. just put yourself in the teacher's place. would u want to be embrassed in front of everyone?
it's ok to correct a teacher, but as i stated everything can be done in a timely & orderly fashion

All those answers above are great. But if at college level, slip them a note, and do it anonymously.
By protecting yourself, you're protecting your grades. You don't want that teacher to hold it against you. Trust me they may look at you differently afterward (or take it as a personal threat because it's embarrassing).
Good job!

well, we can check them in a way that they won't be offended. just don't argue with the teacher and use personal perceptions.
