I am a girl that works tech support and I have been here longer and know more than many of the guys in my department yet when someone has an issue and askes me for help they always 2nd guess me and ten ask a guy who gives them the same answer.... why do guys do this?

I think a major reason for it is that the guys working in the tech department program probably came from programs in college where the majority of students were male. Another reason is the perception that women don't do well in technical fields, such as mathematics, etc. It could also be about gender role stereotyping, that men do the technical, dry stuff while women do the artsy, creative things.
