Hi,

I am a foreigner and would like to know and read American literature. While there could be hundreds of best-sellers accumulated for the last decades, I think sometimes those bestsellers could actually not be the best literature. Please list both fiction and non-fiction titles that are standouts either because of their writing richness or because of content. I am thinking in reading some of those and use them as material for my classes. I am a ESL professor in my country. I will do my best to get those titles thru ebay or otherwise.

Note: While I would love if the title is classified by fiction or non-fiction, or even ranked, a random list would aso do it.

Thanks

Some of the best classics of American Literature I can think of:

The Beautiful and the Damned - F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby - F.Scott Fitzgerald
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Montana 1948 - Larry Watson
Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck
The Old Man and the Sea - Earnest Hemmingway
The House of Seven Gables - Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Scarlet Letter - Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain

These are all works of classic American fiction, and are very entertaining reads. Also some authours to check out:

Edgar Allen Poe
Ralph Waldo Emmerson
Ray Bradburry
Louis L'Amour

They are all very popular American authors of a variety of works, and I've never read anything by them that I didn't like.

Hope I was Helpful
