Or is it just something that looks like basketball but is, in reality, a "showboat" business that uses a ball and two baskets? The things the players are allowed to do make a mockery of the game as played in high school and college.
Pushing, holding, double dribbles and travelling are the things I see most of.
The ONE most disgusting play I ever saw was when MJ was allowed 6 steps while going to the basket to make a dunk.
Do I watch NBA anymore? Not on your life.

No other professional sport allows such a varience in the "rules". Football and baseball are almost exactly the same regardless of the level. Only in pro basketball is there such a huge gap in what is "gap" in what is allowed.

Knocking MJ? I'm knocking the rules and the governing body that makes up the rules.
Ever wonder why the USA teams do so poorly in world competition? Because they can't play the game they play in the pros. They don't know how to play "basketball" anymore. I make exception the first time the pros were allowed in the olympics. But from that time to this they have not been the dominating force they were. When the USA team was made up of college players we were much more successful.

If I want to see basketball the way it IS meant to be played, I'll watch a good high school or college game. The NBA is a travesty to the great game of basketball. even the officials are not allowed to call games once they leave the NBA because they don't know when to enforse the rules in a REAL game.
And I don't want to get started on the salaries of ANY professional sport.

Pardon my typos please. I really get wound up about this subject and don't take the time to proof read when I get "emotional".

OK - now I have to address the issue of player salaries. It is OBSCENE that pro players in any sport make more money than research scientisits that actually contribute to the well-being of the human race. That goes for the teachers that teach elementary school as well. Or anyone that is beneficial to mankind as a whole.
Professional atheletes are a joke when it comes to making the money they are paid. And don't even try to play the conditioning card or the injury card. You think they pay for any of the medical expenses they incur? Not hardly. Tell you what - give me just $200 million and two wrecked knees and you won't hear a word from me about my poor knees. Gimme a break!!!!!!!

The NBA these days is all about entertainment, not pure basketball.

This all started back in the mid 1980's, when David Stern became commissioner, and he turned the NBA into the MTV league, in order to appeal to the "casual fans", i.e: the Mr. Basketnutz's of the world.

So the stars of the day, like Jordan, were allowed to take a few extra steps, in order to dazzle the crowd.

Serious fans, like yourself, are resigned to watch high school and college games in order to see true basketball, the way it was meant to be played. I really haven't followed the NBA since Bird and Magic retired. I don't have the stomach for it.

First of all in all sports there is a slip of the rules once in a while and I don't recall MJ taking 6 steps in a regulation game. As for the Olympics the U.S. loses all the time because the top superstars are to stubborn and don't volunteer to play.

First off, don't knock MJ.

But seriously I think the NBA has gotten a bit extreme with their current payrates. None of the guys that play the game today are worth their multi-million dollar contracts.

If you want to see basketball the way it was meant to be played you should go check out the WNBA. Those women play harder and work harder for less money. They play because they love the game, not themselves.

First off this chick is saying the NBA is crazy wit the pay rates? Go make babies and b quiet! If it weren't for the so called players all those rich NBA execs would have to do something else. There would be no MJ, No Showtime, No Slam Dunks, etc. Do the players make too much? They are the damn game!!! Kids wanna be like Mike!! People cry for MJ and Kobe so they deserve the money!! MJ and Kobe helped revolutionize the NBA just like Bill Gates did it with computers so they serve to be compensated!!! Oh and NBA players are the best on earth and I actually prefer the NBA RULES which are a little more street ball like than the college game which is what the people want to see!!! Oh and the dude is right the NBA players don't want to play in the USA games because they rather have the summer off to relax and go on vacation. No foreign team this season would have beaten a team with Kobe, Shaq, AI, Duncan, Garnett, Carter, Wallace, James, Kidd, and Wade all playing at the same time.

Are you trying to say that football players dont have their own dirty tricks that they do, that refs dont call? You cant tell me football players dont do stuff at the bottom of a pile that the refs cant see. I think you are exageratting 6 steps.... Seems that you are jealous...
