Tin II fluoride is an ionic solid. Tin II means the tin ion with a charge of +2. Fluorine is a halogen (column 17), and as an ion, all halogens go to -1 charge. So tin is Sn on the periodic table. To get a neutral compound, tin's +2 must be cancelled by a charge of -2, so I need two fluorines to get that. so the formula is SnF2
