There's this kid at my school that uses the N word for no reason while he's talking. I'm black and he's white and I've told him to stop but he keeps on doing it. What should I do that won't get me in trouble?

He's not actually calling ME n*gger, it's as if he thinks it's funny to hear it. Kind of like how 2nd graders laugh at the word butt, you know?

You could bring it to the attention of the principal or teachers about this racial harassment that's going on.
If it continues, you could actually take him to court.

When I was a kid, I'd have just met him after school and settled it with a good old fist-fight.
But, those days are long gone, that's why I suggested the legal route.

I would, in all seriousness, 'F him up if he says it again. Now this could get you in trouble, it depends. If your at a preppy white snobby school then they will have no problem kicking you out even though the guy is a racist. IF you are at a rather liberal school then they could understand and you may only be suspended! HURRAY!

One other option that I would personally employ: I would get a bunch of my black friends to confront the guy with me. IF he says it again then all bets are off for him and you can just "feed him to the wolves", so to speak.

And for THOSE people that are trying to justify the use of the "N word", IT IS EXTREMELY RACIST AND YOU ARE IGNORANT AND RACIST IF YOU TRY TO JUSTIFY IT! I don't even think black people should say it, but ESPECIALLY white people should not say it. It was originated by white people to be an extremely hateful and racist remark towards black people. Using the word "cracker" or "honky" isn't nearly as bad, and ONLY WHITE people can be racist (Everyone can be a bigot, but that is a different discussion).

I can't imagine how that must make you feel! As a white person with several black friends, I've asked a few of them how they've dealt with discrimination in their lives. Some have gotten angry, some have walked away, some have cried, and most at some point tried ignoring the person. One thing that they made clear though, was that, each unfortunately had to find the way that worked for them and the person targeting them. I know that's not much help to you, and I think you should perhaps talk to your principal or teacher, unless you feel that would only make it worse. You didn't mention your age....hopefully this punk is just at a stupidly insensitive age and will quickly outgrow it. God Bless you!

maybe you cant reason with that person because that person is mean, ignorant and that is what the n word means. so it don't pay to fight fire with fire all the time. talk to the teachers first and i hope one is blk. if not talk to one you look up to with the principle.then, if that doesn't solve it beings i have a large family and a mixed grandson and are family has colors you do this(you get a few buddies that wont beat up the bully, you have them without you approach this bully and say i hear your always using the n word which I'm sure they will say the whole word. he will deny it and be afraid to say it around you again) first let the teachers handle it. hang in there, there are alot of ignorant people don't lower yourself to his level.i know a grown blk man that calls grown folks that are wht crackers.i ignored him and in due time he stopped this is not always the case good-luck

Tough question, because no one likes to be insulted or talked down to.

But many whites see a double standard. I know a lot of Blacks that use the N word with each other. It's almost like a term of endearment, mutually identifying with one another.

But being white, I can't use it because out of the mouth of a white person it becomes a racial slur.

It may be so ingrained in his speech that he doesn't always realize he's saying it. He should not be saying it though. Now that he's been made aware of it, he should be making a concerted effort to stop it. If he slips, he should be man enough to look at you and say I'm sorry, I'm trying to learn not to say that word. Then at least you'd know he was trying. I'd tell him one more time and then if he did it again I'd stop hanging around with him. If he asks you why, tell him. He needs to wake up to his own faults and try to correct them.

ask him straight out if you look like his ******. he'll say no and then tell him to stop saying it unless he wants you to act like a ******. it sounds like he's just too dumb to understand what comes out of his own mouth. but you should talk to an authority. they'll do something serious about it, because it's untolerated. he's white and has no reason to actually use it except to show how truely white he's acting. but tell a school authority. that's what they're there for.

Pull him aside just you and him make sure no one is around, and tell him how ou feel, ask him to stop, be a little firm with your voice, but be nice about it, if that doesn't work you could get teachers involved or some one esle who could scare him to death
