Not a bad name! Reba McEntire's son's name is Shelby. It is a good country boys name!!! He sounds like he would be in the FFA ( Future Farmers of America)

How about Sheldon Dane instead? Rane is a girly name and so is Shelby. Sorry. (And this is from a mom with a girl named Jimmie) :)

I personally think Shelby is associated too much with a girl--
why not just name him Rane (or Shelton)

To be honest, my name is Shelby and I'm definately a girl. Shelby started as a boys name...but good luck finding any boys named Shelby now adays. So no, I definately wouldn't suggest the name Shelby for any boy.

Sorry but to me Shelby is a female name or a car. rane isn't bad for a middle name if paired with a different first name. I grew up with the name Rae and I'm female - trust me - please do not give your child a name of the opposite sex unless you realize that they WILL be made fun of for it until they are old enough to laugh about it (18+)

I like both names, but not together. I really think Rane would be a cool first name.
Together they sound a bit feminine to me.

When I hear the name Shelby, I think "girl". I personally don't like it for a boy or a girl, but it's your baby, so if you like it, that's what counts. Be prepared for some confusion though!

When I hear the name Shelby I think of the character Julia Roberts played in Steel Magnolias..the one where she has diabetic attacks..but that is just my opinion and if you love the name you should use it no matter what everyone says!!

I REALLY like Rane. Not too crazy about Shelby though....but please name him what you want. We named our son something different and still love it!
