The stripes actually tell how old the bunbees is.......As it gets older the more stripes a bee gets.

I got bitten by a bumblebee last week. That little bugger had no stripes at all - totally black! My finger still hurts. Sneaky, little...

There are, I believe, about 24 different types of bumble bees in UK, so that many different patterns.

There are more than one species of bumble bee. There is one kind (native to the UK but almost extinct) that is totally black.
