Can I use a PAL format PlayStation 2 from Europe on a NTSC TV and US format electrical cords?

Basically I'm bringing a European (PAL) PS2 to the US and wish for details of how I go about on using it?

According to the page, you will need a multisystem TV,
one that works with the NTSC and PAL formats.
Otherwise you will need a "mod chip"...
