Just your ordinary use of your hands will get dirt under the nails. It may be skin that you scratched. Or maybe dirt from a surface you cleaned. Food you ate with your hands. Could be dryed handsoap too.
The space under your fingernail is big enough for stuff the get trapped.
Remember when you wash your hands to get under the nails too.

WHAT are you touching then? Scratching your head, skin, petting a dog? Do you wash your hands regularly through out the day?
Use a nail brush, you can get one anywhere, and leave it next to your sink where you wash your hands.
Pay attention to where your hands are all day long, bet you will figure out where the crud comes from.......

it is normal for dirt and skin cells to get trapped under the nails. Use a nail brush to scrub under your nails when you wash your hands and they won't look dirty anymore.

You shower regularly but do you wash your hands in between showers? What kind of work do you do? Even if you don't touch dirt it could be something else nasty that looks similar.

WHAT are you touching then? Scratching your head, skin, petting a canines? Do you wash your hands frequently by using out the day? Use a nail brush, you will get one everywhere, and bypass away it next on your sink the place you wash your hands. pay interest to the place your hands are all day long, wager you will confirm the place the crud comes from.......

You may be scratching yourself on a regular basis in a subconscious manner.
