i'd go w/ the vortec. both are very good, but the vortec will get better fuel mileage.

Some of the vortecs also use throttle body injection. If one engine is a vortec and the other is a pre-vortec, the difference is about 50 horse power. The truck 350's were rated around 200 hp before the vortec heads, and 250 hp after. Vortec engines are not more or less reliable than other smallblocks. Vortec just refers to the cylinder heads. These heads are exceptional for a factory head. All the budget racers love em.

vortec will have more power slighty better mileage but there is less to go wrong with a throttle body 2 injectors versus 8 but both are very relaible i own a 1995 gmc with 230,000 miles havent had a problem with the throttle body at all id say its personal choice there both good

Go with the Vortec. More power, better mileage, and just simply more reliable.

TBI engines were a quick answer to fuel injection. They work on the same principle as a carburetor with one injectorbut are not as efficient as tuned port injection...each cylinder has an injector.
Vortec engines are 2 generations after TBI so are more efficient and powerful in high rpm range.
