Personal or sites of people stating why they join reenactment groups

I love history and always thought it would be fun to join one of these groups. You get to dress up in costume and act out historic events which inform and entertain others. Maybe it has some of the same appeal as people performing in local theater groups. There's a certain comraderie, I'm sure.
It's not a cheap hobby, as the re-enactor has to buy their own authentic outfit and gear, plus travel to wherever the reenactment is put on.
I've never followed up on my interest, but always look forward to seeing these events and talking to the performers. I admire their dedication.
