Could you tell us what "split level "teaching is? I've taught a long time and never heard that term. I am familiar with multi grade level teaching. That's where you may have 4 grade levels within the same class and approx. 3 to 4 students from each level. I am also familiar with transitional grades which are grades between grades.
In the multi level class the older students teach the younger students at times. The teacher will call groups of students in 15 to 25 minute blocks of time( depending on their abilities ) to teach basic skills. In the transitional setting the students are taught only the skills that they are weak in so they are ready for the next grade.
