Also, that's great you will quit smoking beforehand. My friend was a heavy smoker, so she cut down to just 4 cigarrettes a day when she was pregnant. She regrets she did not quit completely now that her one year has been in and out of the hospital for asmatic problems. She swears she will quit before becoming pregnant with their second child.

Try cutting down first, cold turkey is the hardest way to quit. When you can kick it completely, then try to become pregnant. Good luck!!! LOL.

I did not smoke before I was pregnant, but the following is what my doctor told me to do before I started trying to get pregnant:

1. stop smoking & drinking (if you do)..even when trying it can have harmful effects on the fetus and can cause a miscariage.
2. Start exercising. Being in shape helps you lose the weight after faster I was told..walking during my pregnancy helpped me feel better when I was uncomfortable.
3. Eat right..no more caffine ..which was the hardest thing for me.
4. Start taking a prenatal viatmen (you can get them over the counter or a doctor will prescribe one)
5. drink a lot of water.
6. The best advice when I was trying: Remember it takes some people years or trying, drugs and other things to get pregnant so if it takes awhile just enjoy trying. It took me over a year and at first I was heart broken every month, but than when I stopped to enjoy the fun part of trying I really relaxed and 2 months later...baby on the way.

Go to your doctor and get a prescription to help you stop smoking. Smoking, even second hand smoke is so terrible for a baby, causing all kinds of problems for them later in life. If you really want a baby you can do this, many women have done it before you.
Also start exercising on a regular basis, take prenatal vitamins or multivitamins with folic acid, and eat healthy.
Don't wait to quit until you are pregnant. I was 7 weeks along before I found out for sure and there is no telling what damage you could have already done to the fetus by then.

I quit cold turkey on smoking, drinking and coffee when I found out I was prego. I had been smoking a pack aday and although the first two weeks were rough (on top of the wonderful hormones) it was the only way I found to successful quit- I'm still a non-smoker today. I just couldn't justify satisfying a craving when I knew that everything I did could potentially affect my baby. I would suggest getting into exercising like yoga if you plan to become pregnant- it will help with the stress (also the smoking) and get you ready from pregnancy

You are right to think about quiting the smoking habit as it will be better for you and your child before and after it is born. Second hand smoke is not good for your child. some other pointers is to take your vitamins(some good ones) for about 6 months before getting pregnant. This can help to prevent birth defects. Also be careful about taking any kind of medicine. Eat healthy food. Go see your gynecologist and get a check up and ask for their advise and follow through! Hope you have a very good experience being a mom-I think you will be a great MOM!

Obviously the first thing you need to do is quit smoking now. Don't wait until you're pregnant, your body needs time to regroup. (Also, it's bull that your friend can't quit smoking weed; weed is not physically addictive. She is choosing to hurt herself and her child.) My mom smoked with all three of her kids and we're all fine and have above average intelligence. Although two of us were born premature and all of us were a low birth weight (5 lbs or less).

The next thing you need to do is make an appoint with a good ob/gyn doctor. There are some test that they should do BEFORE you are pregnant to test for your immunity to German measles and you also might want to get an AIDS test. Your doctor can recommend the appropriate tests. It can be quite dangerous to the baby to catch some diseases while pregnant and you can immunized before conception so it won't be a problem.

The doctor can also recommend supplements you should be taking. Folic acid is especially important before and during pregnancy for preventing certain birth defects. I think you're going to be good parents. Everyone should consider their children BEFORE they get pregnant. Good luck.

Hello... Krystal, (:

Please, please I beg you to stop smoking. I don't care what anyone tells you, you will hurt your baby and yourself. Do what I did and it works I priomise you it does.
You like to smoke, okay that's a true fact. You can lie to yourself or tell yourself the real truth. You don't need to take any pills or what ever to stop. You can do this on your own, I know you can.
Quite cold turky, be honest and tell yourself the truth.
I quote " Yes I do want to smoke, but I choose not to smoke for this moment, and then drink at least two glasses of water everytime you get the urge to smoke, and I mean everytime. " Keep repeating that process and you will be amazed. Key word "Choose"
Krystal, do you know and realize when you put that ciggarette up to your lips how ugly that makes you look? Do you know and realize when you smoke after a time your face will look just like rubber, that's a true fact. Ask yourself, do you want to look like that? It's really ugly. Now if you stop smoking and you have a baby you should never go back to smoking again especially around your new born baby. Eat healthy, get lots of rest and please stop smoking for ever so you will stay alive to raise your child. And don't allow any one else to smoke around you or your baby. Trust me you will really find out who your true friends are if you ask them not to smoke, or even to smoke out side.
Drink lots of water everyday. Did you know or realize that water helps you to stay thin. I was a smoker for to many years. I quick cold turkey. My friend the same age as me didn't stop. You should hear her cough, and you should see her face. We are the same age and she looks at least 25 years older than me. She can't do anytnhing because she is always sick with one thing or the other.
You can stop. You are a wonderful beautiful woman as God intended for you to be. I will pray for you success. Please think about what i have said to you. I believe in you. Have a nice day.
Love yourself and love God
Sincerely, J.. (:

QUIT SMOKING NOW!

Babies of smokers have lower birth weights (they don't grow so well when deprived of oxygen) and more respiratory illnesses.

You should also eat healthy foods and exercise, and start taking prenatal vitamins BEFORE you get pregnant.

(Never heard of "falling" pregnant before. For me, it always involved sex...)
