Politically speaking, we have an election coming up and this is an attempt by a foreign government to influence that election. Iran is doing the same thing. Iraqi insurgents, same thing.

They all want to see George W. Bush go out in disgrace of any kind, because they know the Democrats will handle international affairs much differently (translated: talk, negotiate, liaison, but no backbone for standing up to the enemy militarily).

Kim Jong Il is probably not playing with a full deck... here's a TIME article on some of the books that some of his former staff have managed to write and publish...

Nothing big. North Korea is just trying to nuke the United States.

(I wouldn't worry about it. If they try something stupid, the US has enough nuclear warheads to bomb the entire earth 36 times over. North Korea will become a big steaming crater.)
