1. Atlanta - their team has been mediocre and thats nicer than I could be. Also, their fans really don't seem to care at all about their games (pretty much all Atlanta sports teams except the Falcons).
2. NY Islanders - when a city of 9 million doesn't care about you and your team is boring, perhaps its time to get rid of you.
3. Phoenix - this city stole a team from Winnipeg and they need to send it back. Plus this team has no rich history of doing well anyways, so the city wouldn't miss them.
I see some folks said get rid of Columbus, but if you have ever been at a game here, the fans are really in to it. The arena is awesome, games are fun and the team is a lot better this year. More than most hockey areans, the fans are really in to the games. We may not be rabid fans like Toronto or Calgary, but we still enjoy our team here. I predict a playoff team (maybe 7-8th spot).

Sorry to the Columbus fans but I do think they are one that could easily go. Atlanta seems like a good one to get rid of. Then either Tampa Bay or Florida. Now if you add to it let's get some of those teams out of Cali. Like get rid of LA, let them keep San Jose. Heck the LA fans can go to the Ducks. As to the Penguins, Pittsburgh happens to enjoy it's team. As to the bankruptcy a few years back when Mario bought the team no amount of fan support could have really stopped that. If you looked into what happened they had such a terriable lease there was almost no way for the team to make money.

Normally I would say that any warm weather team should go but Columbus is just not a bog enough city to hold a team very long, As a true NHL fan I would say we have to get rid of more than three to better the viability of the league. And do get on my high horse for a sec, they should stop trying to compete with NBA, MLB and NFL. Most of the recent (last 4 years) rules changes have been aimed at trying to get more people watching when they really need to try and keep their fan base. two nights ago I was watching a game, and saw someone get a penalty for lifting the puck carriers stick from behind and stealing the puck! that was the first thing I learned as a defenseman!!!! it is getting ridiculous..

what are you saying about Montreal to leave give me a break your beloved Canes will not be in the NHL in the next 20 years the Canadiens will be their forever.
teams to leave is Carolina lucky last year wont make playoffs this year, Tampa Bay will be gone soon half the people in Florida state don't even know they have a hockey team even 2 hockey teams. Keep Los Angeles their as they are part of the first expansion to 12 teams but get rid of Anaheim and San Jose and Phoenix this are teams that will be just like the Baseball teams get the top players for one year and try to win it all. and yes bring back the Jets, Nordiques and the Whalers.
HF>>>> before you turn 30 the Canes will not be in the NHL.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh boo hoo hoo!!
Go ahead and mock Anaheim... if you haven't noticed, we have beaten most of you cold weather climate teams. You don't need to be 32 degrees below zero to have an ice rink.
We have it all... great weather, great looking people, and most of all, an owner who is willing to put up money for a good team. We have 2 Norris Trophy winners, the first Rocket Richard trophy recipient (Selanne) and rookies that most teams would kill for to have.
So if you think Anaheim should be removed... boo hoo! While your guys are playing golf, my team will be back in the playoffs, looking right as Lord Stanley's cup!
You're all jealous of the Ducks... and I don't care!

Just three???
Original six teams are untouchable (so that means Chicago, Hockey_Freak)
1. Florida (Relocate to Winnipeg)
2. Atlanta (Relocate to Quebec City or Hartford)
3. Anaheim (Relocate to Portland, OR)
Others who get an honourable mention to be moved or booted out: Phoenix, Nashville, Tampa Bay & Carolina.
Reason why? Hockey just doesn't matter in these areas.
For the amount of people who show a lot of interest in Hockey in these locations, it's just not worth keeping them.

It seems a given that there are too many teams now, the prevailing wisdom seems to be that with ONE top notch scorer, ONE stud defenceman and a real good goalie you can be a contender. Wait and see though, the NHL will soon be talking about expansion....GO Mexico City Banditos GO!

3 is difficult. They would be Anaheim, Tampa, Miami. But my list would include Dallas, L.A., S.J., St. Louis, Phoenix, Nashville, & Atlanta. Carolina gets a reprieve because fans will support a winner in any city. Columbus is far north enough to be given a chance.

Los Angeles, I can't stand them. And I have no idea why...
Columbus, because they were an expansion mistake from hell.
Anaheim is still a joke to most hockey fans, even with the name change and improvements made to the roster.

Toronto, because they are terrible. They always act like they're the best team and they barely ever make it to the playoffs. Los Angelos, because there is nothing special about teams from that city, as they have to many sports teams. Chicago, because they are living on past glory, and when I say past I mean a long way back.
