I was just reading a report on Yahoo about it and I looked at the poll results... currently, 43% of the people who took the poll said that the Confederate Flag was a problem for NASCAR...

Here is the article for those who haven't seen it...

Taken from the article....
"Yahoo! Sports asked more than 30 major drivers for their thoughts on the Confederate flag, whether they felt it created an unwelcoming environment to potential fans, and if so, whether it would be appropriate to ask their supporters to not fly it.
All but one turned down requests for private interviews, written statements or any comment on the issue. Many did so tersely.
The only driver we found willing to speak on the issue during Talladega race week was Dale Earnhardt Jr."
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said...
"We live in a country where you can speak freely and do as you may," Earnhardt said. "I don't know [if] what that flag stands for is the same for me as it is the guy who might have it flying out there.
"I am not going to agree with everything everybody does all my life. So I don't have any control over it."

It's like this: we had slavery for almost 100 years under the American flag, 4 under the confederate flag -- should we not feel uneasy when we see our American flag flying overhead?
Just because a bunch of losers in white bed sheets disgraced the flag of the south (the bozos also fly the American flag) we should never lose the best parts of our heritage, north, south or American.

No it doesn't bother me. I am huge fan of Nascar, and I live in the South. It's a heritage/pride thing. It doesn't meant anything toward racism or anything else. It's the South, and we are proud. Yeah the Confederate flag might seem to some as racist, but it's not. It's just a flag, that Southerners take pride in! Just like the American flag. People need to get a grip. But people will always be offended by the Conferderate flag, in my opinion. It's just stupid, that some people would quit watching Nascar, just because of the Conferderate flag. In my book, they weren't REAL Nascar fans to start with.

Nascar is not flying the flag. You need to remember that NASCAR has historicly been a Southern thing, as is the Confederate flag. It just makes sense. When I went to NASCAR in Vegas, I did not see any of them, of course Vegas is not in the South. Now I am not from the south and I have never been to the South, so I don't completely understand the big deal. I know it is a sign of rebellion and I would not display it. What I don't know is if it really has a racist message with it. I think that there are more important things to worry about like National Securtity and our brave men and women who are fighting for our freedoms, oh yeah and will Brian Vickers be in the 25 this week.

There were actually many different flags used by the Confederate Government during the Civil War.The one we see most often today is actually The Navy Jack.
You have to consider that history is written by the winners. The Confederate Flag is a symbol of the defeated south, and many people place special significance behind it.
Check out the link to look at the different flags of The Confederacy, and learn some of the history behind it.

Nope....not at all! I am African-American and a female and I don't see anything wrong with them flying the Confederate Flag. The Confederate Flag doesn't have a damn thing to do with me and it will not stop me from being a Nascar fan! I'm watching the races to see how my favorite driver is doing...not to see the Confederate Flag!
Just because some do something that does not mean that they represent every, single person! I mean...for example...there are people of all races who sell drugs, but that doesn't mean that they represent every single person who is of the same race as they are!

Nascar/stock car racing is a sport deep in tradition and it has it's roots in the south. Despite the terrible association with slavery the Confederate flag is also a symbol of the south. So it would be very difficult to seperate them.

No, the flag flying does not bother me. I feel that it is simply representative of the state's history and does not have any other meaning. Those who attach negative and hateful things to the flag can't separate the state history from the acts of people. A flag cannot act by itself - it has no arms or legs!
As for the race, I'm lucky if I can pay attention to whose racing in what position and what is happening on all areas of the track! Who can take their eyes off the race to be bothered by a flag? It definitely doesn't change my attending a race or not.

No, the Confederate Flag is an American Battle Flag and a part of American history, you should learn more about American history ( the true American history 1861-18650), NOT WHAT IS IN THE HISTORY BOOKS.

it is not 'subculture'... i replaced into raised in the south, and on each and every occasion I see somebody raising a accomplice flag, it embarrasses the hell out of me. it is an previous image that of course many human beings connect with racism (whether this isn't what it replaced into meant for), so only stop making use of it.
